Welcome to the new Blog from the UW Atmos Outreach Group!

We would like to welcome you to the new blog for the Outreach Group from the University of Washington's Department of Atmospheric Sciences.  We are a student run group that has maintained a volunteer-based Outreach Program since 1989.  Graduate students share their knowledge with K-12 students by judging science fairs, hosting groups wanting to learn more about the field and visiting schools for hands-on demonstrations and lectures.  We will use this blog to share events we've attended as well as share news about the group.

Interested in more information or want to set up an event?  Check out our website or youtube channel

We hope you enjoy the blog!

Set up of the sea-level rise exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum

The UW is creating a display at the Seattle Art Museum's Olympic Sculpture Park that illustrates how projected changes in sea level due to climate change could affect Seattle's waterfront, as well as other more vulnerable waterfront cities elsewhere in the world.

Lake Forest Park Elementary Science Night

A team of 3 graduate students set up a table at Lake Forest Park Elementary's Annual Science Night with information about careers in the atmospheric sciences. Kelly McCusker, Kristen Rasmussen and Reid Wolcott manned the table and performed lab demos for interested children and their parents.

Lake Forest Park Elementary Science Career Night

A team of atmospheric scientists set up a booth at the science with information about careers in the atmospheric sciences. Bri Dotson, Lucas Harris, and Mark Zelinka manned the booth and performed lab demos for interested children and their parents.

Lucas and Mark show students how to make a tornado in some 2-liter bottles.

Mark teaches students about how air pressure can control temperature, and how that helps make a cloud in a bottle.
